Lawyers for the U.S. government and Zacarias Moussaoui on Wednesday wrap up a tumultuous and bizarre death penalty trial for the only person charged in the United States in the September 11 plot. The lawyers and U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema met to work on instructions for the jury that must decide whether Moussaoui is executed. The panel of 12 jurors and five alternates returns in the afternoon for closing arguments and will begin deliberating his fate by the end of the day.The final summations mark the end of proceedings that began March 6 and were delayed for a week after a government witness improperly contacted and coached key witnesses.Moussaoui provided sensational testimony in declaring he was meant to fly a plane into the White House on September 11, something he had previously denied.... http://news.yahoo.com censor News |

Hamas formally takes over government |

Hamas insists it will not soften its violent ideology toward the Jewish state.Israel's presumed prime minister-designate, Ehud Olmert, has countered that if Hamas will not bend, he will set the borders of a Palestinian state by himself and keep large areas of the West Bank.... http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-03-29-hamas-government_x.htm

College student lives in Wal-Mart for 41 hours He ate at in-store restaurant, napped in restroom or on lawn chairs |
For spring break, some college students set out for sun-drenched beaches or cheap European cities. Skyler Bartels headed for the local Wal-Mart.Bartels, 20, an aspiring writer and Drake University sophomore, thought he'd spend a week in a Wal-Mart as a test of endurance, using it as the premise for a magazine article. His college adviser liked the idea."I just intuitively thought, 'This is brilliant!"' said Carol Spaulding-Kruse, an associate professor of English. "I wasn't quite sure why, but it just sounded like a really good idea."For 41 hours, Bartels wandered the aisles of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Windsor Heights that's open 24 hours a day. He checked out shoppers, read magazines, watched movies on the DVD display and played video games.... http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/29/walmat.spring.break.ap/index.html?section=cnn_us

Olmert Has Enough Support for Israeli Pullback, Lawmakers Say |
Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Olmert can build a coalition that will back his plan to withdraw from the West Bank even though his own Kadima Party won fewer votes than expected, lawmakers said. Olmert, whose party won just 28 of the Knesset's 120 seats in yesterday's election, can muster a two-thirds majority by negotiating with the Labor Party and three or four other potential coalition partners, said Haim Ramon, one of three members of parliament who left the Labor Party to join Kadima. Labor came second with 20 seats. ``We're talking about a dramatic change in our political life,'' Ramon said in an interview with Israel Radio today. ``It's a big victory for Olmert who courageously presented a detailed political program. We have the ability to form a coalition with 80 seats.'' ... http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aCoug67eTrK8&refer=home

Federal officials are investigating a possible safety breach involving two commercial planes at O'Hare International Airport, the third investigation of an apparent close call on the airfield's runways in less than a week. Federal Aviation Administration officials said Tuesday that they are trying to determine whether two planes that were preparing for takeoff on Sunday got closer than allowed under federal rules. An Airbus A320 plane had been cleared for takeoff at around 12:20 p.m. but was told to abort its takeoff four seconds later because another plane had been readying for takeoff on an intersecting runway, the FAA said. ... http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2006-03-29-ohare-safety_x.htm
