Violet Fojut, 88, isn't happy that the bingo games she & fellow senior citizens have participated in at the Cream City Cafeteria in the Southridge Mall won't be held any more. "It was always packed. Every table was always packed," he said Tue after learning that police had told officials of Boston Store, in which the cafeteria is located, that the games violate state law. "I go every week after I have my hair done," she added. "It's such a friendly atmosphere. You really get to know all the people. And the food you take home enough for 2 days afterward." The cafeteria had been offering early bird specials in which diners, nearly all senior citizens, got 7 bingo cards on Mon, Wed & Sun along with their food. Those who were the first to cover a row with chips got a prize wrapped in white tissue such as a tea towel set, some costume jewelry or a set of candles. Such a crime, why didn’t they send the Swat Team to shoot all these heinous criminals. I feel much safer now ... http://abcnews.go.com censor News |

Episcopal Leader Asks Church Members to Make Concessions on Homosexuals |
Appearing on a live webcast, the Episcopal Church's presiding bishop began the painful task Wednesday of persuading members to roll back their support for gays at least for now so the denomination can keep its place in the world Anglican fellowship. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, who personally supports ordaining partnered gays, told a studio audience, callers and those who submitted questions by e-mail that they should make concessions that Anglican leaders are seeking to buy time for reconciliation. "To live together in Christian community means each member takes seriously the concerns and needs of other members," Jefferts Schori said. "If we can lower the emotional reactivity in the midst of this current controversy, we just might be able to find a way to live together." Asked whether she was abandoning gay and lesbian Christians, Jefferts Schori said, "My view hasn't changed, but I'm called to be pastor to the whole church." ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2913027

Army Sees Promising Results From Vaccine Against Hepatitis E, Disease Found in Asia |
The U.S. Army has carried out a promising early test of the first vaccine against hepatitis E, a form of the liver-attacking disease that sickens many Asians and can spread to soldiers or other Western visitors to the region. The vaccine, made from moth cells infected with an engineered virus, was 96 percent effective for Nepalese Army soldiers who took all three doses. However, the disease wasn't widespread even in a group without the vaccine: only 7 percent got sick. The two-year test on 1,794 soldiers almost all men was reported Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study turned up no major side effects. Though rarely fatal for most people, the disease can cause nasty stomach symptoms and pose special danger to pregnant women. ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2912991

MIKE NIFONG'S LAWYERS SAY HE DIDN'T INTENTIONALLY BREAK ETHICS RULES IN DUKE CASE. If he doesn’t know what ethics is, he wouldn’t know when he broke them |
The prosecutor who drove the Duke lacrosse rape investigation didn't intentionally break any ethics rules, his attorneys said Wednesday as they argued that part of the state bar complaint that could lead to his disbarment be dismissed. Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong did make many of the comments deemed by the state bar to be misleading and inflammatory, his attorneys admitted in a 50-page motion that responds to the bar's complaint point-by-point. But they denied that Nifong intentionally withheld DNA evidence from defense attorneys — the most serious of the ethics charges faced by the veteran prosecutor." A lot of people have been rushing to judgment on both the underlying case and this case," said Dudley Witt, one of Nifong's Winston-Salem-based attorneys. "And after you allow someone to have a full hearing, I think you will find that he didn't do anything wrong." Too bad he didn’t allow the defendants what he now claims for himself. Jail this SOB for a long time ... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,255503,00.html

Pro Athletes Received Steroids From Drug Ring, Prosecutor Says |
Professional athletes were among the customers who bought steroids and human-growth hormone from an illegal Internet drug distribution ring, according to a New York prosecutor involved in a yearlong investigation. Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares didn't identify customers at a news conference yesterday in front of a Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, Florida. The pharmacy was one of two raided in Florida as a result of the probe. The raids by a task force of federal and state law enforcement personnel led to the arrests of four Signature Pharmacy officials, including Chief Executive Naomi Loomis, the Albany District Attorney's Office said in an e-mailed statement. A phone message left at Signature Pharmacy for Loomis wasn't immediately returned. ... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601079&sid=aAnDi.meFeq8&refer=home

Federal outreach to faith charities fought |
The Supreme Court wrestled today with the question of whether taxpayers have the right to challenge the White House's promotion of federal financial aid for religious charities. At issue is whether a Wisconsin-based group of atheists and agnostics have legal standing, by virtue of being taxpayers, to bring their complaint in the federal court system. Taking one extreme, Justice Stephen G. Breyer asked a lawyer for the White House whether a taxpayer would be able to challenge a law in which Congress sets up a church at Plymouth Rock. "I would say no," responded Solicitor General Paul D. Clement, but he added that such a church could be challenged in other ways -- just not on the basis that a taxpayer has been injured. ... http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20070228-025518-3516r.htm
