Pressure mounted Sunday on Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to give up his bid for a new term amid anger over a recent surge of sectarian killings that has complicated already snarled negotiations on a new Iraqi government.Meanwhile, the U.S. military in Iraq said on Sunday media reports that America and Britain planned to pull all troops out of Iraq by spring 2007 were “completely false,” reiterating that there was no timetable for withdrawal. Two British newspapers reported on Sunday that the pull-out plan followed an acceptance by the two governments that the presence of foreign troops in Iraq was now an obstacle to securing peace.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com censor News |

Extreme Vacation To The West Bank |
The streets of this seething Palestinian refugee camp, just outside Bethlehem, are dirty and crowded. The main street, where screeching strains of a political rally mingle with the din of animal and mechanical obstacles, gives off onto a dismal lane where Hamas posters merge with graffiti and a ragged Fatah flag flutters. This hardly looks like the ideal holiday spot. But nestled on this chaotic lane is the al-Haj apartment: tourist destination. Vacationing in a Palestinian refugee camp - past Israeli military checkpoints and onto streets most often photographed for nightly news not tourist brochures - may seem unlikely. But a stream of foreigners - Americans, English, Dutch - booking stays at Yasser al-Haj's apartment here prove otherwise. ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/03/world/main1367241.shtml?CMP=OTC-RSSFeed&source=RSS&attr=World_1367241

Zawahiri urges Hamas to fight on |
Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri has called on the Palestinian militant group Hamas not to recognise past peace deals with Israel. In a video message shown on Arab TV network al-Jazeera, Zawahiri urged Hamas, which won Palestinian elections in January, to fight on with arms. Zawahiri also attacked the West for insulting the Prophet Muhammad in cartoons published in newspapers. The drawings were deemed blasphemous by Muslims and sparked worldwide protests. Al-Jazeera has not disclosed how it obtained the tape, the latest in a series of such video statements by Zawahiri intermittently broadcast by the channel. Dressed in a black turban and white robe and seated in front of a curtain, Zawahiri accused the outgoing Palestinian administration of betrayal. "No Palestinian has the right to give away a grain of the soil," he said. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4775222.stm

Clashes are over and the security forces are back in control of the town of Mir Ali, an army spokesman said. Correspondents says it is the fiercest fighting since the army went into the area in 2003 to drive militants out. The violence began on Saturday morning when a group of more than 100 tribal militants attacked a military post in Mir Ali. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4774762.stm

Violence Prevents Formation of Iraq Gov't. Surge of Sectarian Killings Complicates Already Snarled Negotiations on New Iraqi Government |
Pressure mounted Sunday on Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to give up his bid for a new term amid anger over a recent surge of sectarian killing that has complicated already snarled negotiations on a new Iraqi government. The delay forming a government has prevented the parliament elected Dec. 15 from meeting since the vote was certified last month. But Kurdish and some Shiite officials said Sun it should be ready to convene within days. The political turmoil has left a dangerous leadership vacuum as Iraqi armed forces, backed by the U.S. military, battle to contain the violence that pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war. Early Sun, police reported commandos from the Interior Ministry stormed a Sunni mosque in west Baghdad, killing 3 people and injuring 7 in a 25 minute gunbattle. Later, two relatives of an influential Sunni leader were killed in a drive-by shooting in another part of west Baghdad. The Shiite-led Interior Ministry denied involvement in either attack... http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1689066&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

Poland Suspects Dead Swans Were Infected With Lethal Bird Flu |
Poland reported its first case of H5 bird flu, in two swans in the northern city of Torun, and is awaiting results of tests being carried out in the U.K. to see if it's the lethal H5N1 strain that can kill humans. Polish Health Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel said at a press conference in Warsaw there are strong reasons to suspect H5N1, but that ``100 percent confirmation or denial can come only from the U.K.'' The results will come within days, he said. The dead swans were found on March 3 in Torun, a city with 200,000 people. The city's authorities are considering shutting off the whole town center. For now, they've installed a three- kilometer security zone around where the birds were found. ... http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aoFIGFILM7Hs&refer=home
