Top British Anglican leaders are bringing new pressure on the Episcopal General Convention to enact a ban on electing gay bishops before the assembly ends next week. If the legislative body fails to endorse a moratorium, the overseas bishops fear the divide in the global Anglican Communion over homosexuality will escalate to a full-blown schism. Church of England Bishop N.T. Wright of Durham said in a statement being widely circulated at the meeting that prohibiting gay bishops — for now, anyway — is "the least that can be done that will restore the unity that has already been lost." The crisis erupted in 2003, when the Episcopalians consecrated New Hampshire Bishop V. Gene Robinson, who lives with his longtime male partner. The move shocked conservative Anglicans around the world, who believe gay sex violates Scripture. ... http://www.cbsnews.com censor News |

US forces struggle to get on terms |
The 68,000 U.S. troops stationed in Germany should blend in better with the millions of World Cup soccer fans thanks to a crash course on "clean sheets," "nutmegs" and "bicycle kicks" from forces radio. For American Forces Network, sports news at this time of year would normally be a diet of basketball and baseball scores, but recognizing the tournament taking place on the doorstep it is providing tips and phone-in discussions to help soldiers follow the games. One quiz this week tested listeners' knowledge of soccer terminology that are to most more alien than the sport itself. A bicycle kick for example: is it an overhead kick with the back to the goal (right answer) or a shot performed with a rapid pedaling motion of the feet? ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2088203

Search On For 2 Missing U.S. Troops |
U.S. troops searched Saturday for two soldiers who went missing after an attack that killed one of their comrades at a traffic checkpoint in the so-called "Triangle of Death" just south of Baghdad, the military said. U.S. Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said four raids had been carried out since Friday's attack and that ground forces, helicopters and airplanes were taking part in the search. The soldiers came under attack at a traffic checkpoint southwest of Youssifiyah, 12 miles south of Baghdad. A quick reaction force arrived at the scene after hearing small arms fire and explosions, according to the military. "We are currently using every means at our disposal on the ground, in the air and in the water to find them," Caldwell said. ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/02/24/iraq/main541815.shtml?source=RSS&attr=World_541815

Wrong advice blamed for US abuse |
US forces in Iraq kept detainees with only bread and water for up to 17 days in 2004, a newly-released report says. The Special Operations troops stripped inmates naked and drenched them with water before interrogation in overly air-conditioned rooms, it said. The report, by Brig Gen Richard Formica, says troops were not to blame - they had received the wrong advice. It is the latest in a series of inquiries into the alleged abuse or killing of Iraqis by coalition forces. Several US soldiers have been jailed for their role in abusing inmates at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison. Images of the abuse caused an international outcry - but most defendants say they were following orders. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5090372.stm
