Israeli troops fight Hizbollah in south Lebanon |
Israeli troops fought fierce battles with Hizbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon early on Tuesday, as Israel gave the green light to widen a ground offensive and push deep into Lebanese territory. An Israeli military source reported "on and off" clashes in the areas of Aita al-Shaab and Taibe on the Lebanese side of the border and Hizbollah said it was resisting another Israeli incursion near the border village of Kfar Kila.The southern village of Qana was set to bury bodies of at least 54 civilians, including 37 children on Tuesday, two days after they were killed in an Israeli air strike that sparked international outrage and calls for a swift end to the fighting.At least 598 people have been killed in Lebanon, although the health minister puts the toll at 750 including bodies still buried under rubble. Couple Charged After Woman Dies During Home Liposuction Surgery |
A couple who authorities say performed liposuction in the basement of a home were charged Monday with practicing medicine without a license after a female patient died. Luiz Carlos Ribeiro, 49, a native of Brazil, and Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro, also 49, pleaded not guilty to the unauthorized practice of medicine and drug charges at their arraignment. Luiz Ribeiro was ordered held on $250,000 bail while his wife was held on $50,000 bail. Both were ordered to surrender their passports. Two elderly women were charged Monday with killing homeless men in hit-and-run car crashes in order to collect million of dollars on their life insurance policies. Olga Rutterschmidt, 73, who was born in Hungary, and Helen Golay, 75, each were charged with two counts of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder for financial gain. The murder charges carry special allegations that would make the women eligible for the death penalty if convicted.
