Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Friday compared Iran's nuclear ambitions and threats against Israel with the policies of Nazi Germany and criticized world leaders who maintain relations with Iran's president. Olmert's speech during a ceremony at Israel's national Holocaust memorial came after a new report that Iran has doubled its capability to enrich uranium a process that can produce material for nuclear power reactors or weapons. Israel has identified Iran as the greatest threat to the Jewish state. Israel's concerns have heightened since the election of Iran's hard-line president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who frequently calls for the destruction of Israel and has questioned whether the Nazi genocide of 6 million Jews took place. If Israel itself would stop acting like Nazis and pointing fingers at others accusing them of being the bad guys and clean up their own act maybe they would have more credibility ... http://abcnews.go.com censor News |

ran starts up 2nd atomic fuel network: ISNA |
Iran has started enriching uranium in a second network of centrifuges, Iran's student news agency ISNA reported on Friday, expanding a programme which the West fears is intended to make atomic bombs.ISNA quoted an "informed source" saying "the injection of gas was carried out" in the past week. "We have obtained the product of the second cascade," the source said. Uranium UF-6 gas is injected into cylindrical centrifuges which spin at supersonic speeds to produce enriched material. The centrifuges can be used for making fuel for power plants or material for atomic bombs. Iran, the world's fourth largest oil exporter, says the aim of its nuclear program is to meet energy needs. But it has failed to convince world powers, who are threatening U.N. sanctions after Tehran failed to heed a U.N. demand to halt enrichment work. ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2610727

Coalition navies on watch for oil attack. Is this election timing? |
Coalition naval forces in the Gulf are on watch for possible terror threats to oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Western naval officials said here on Friday. A British navy official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said a threat from al-Qaeda last month to target Gulf oil terminals had resulted in stepped-up security and vigilance at Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura terminal, as well as a refinery in Bahrain.Oil exports in the region were proceeding as normal, he said. The British navy, part of the Italian-led Coalition Task Force 152 that patrols international waters off the Ras Tanura terminal, sent an e-mail warning on Friday asking merchant shippers in the region of Bahrain and eastern Saudi Arabia to be on alert for suspicious vessels or other activity.... http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-10-27-oil-attacks_x.htm?csp=34

Executed Killer Danny Rolling Gave Note to Minister About 1989 La. Murders, Police Say |
Shortly before his execution, serial killer Danny Rolling gave a minister a note about three 1989 murders in his hometown of Shreveport, police said. Police spokesman Kacee Hargrave would not say whether Rolling admitted stabbing 55-year-old William T. Grissom, his 24-year-old daughter Julie, and 8-year-old grandson Sean. KTBS-TV reported that the note was a confession. Rolling told a Florida television interviewer in 2000 that he accepted responsibility for the Grissoms' deaths, but stopped short of confessing. Rolling, the son of a Shreveport police officer, was executed Wednesday for killing five college students in Gainesville, Fla. in a ghastly string of slayings in 1990. The minister was with Rolling in the hours before his execution. ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2610921

The White House said Friday that Vice President Dick Cheney was not talking about a torture technique known as "water boarding" when he said dunking terrorism suspects in water during questioning was a "no-brainer."Human rights groups said Cheney's comments amounted to an endorsement of water boarding, in which the victim believes he is about to drown."You know as a matter of common sense that the vice president of the United States is not going to be talking about water boarding. Never would, never does, never will," presidential spokesman Tony Snow said. "You think Dick Cheney's going to slip up on something like this? No, come on."In an interview Tuesday with WDAY of Fargo, N.D., Cheney was asked if "a dunk in water is a no-brainer if it can save lives."... http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-10-27-cheney_x.htm?csp=34

The Iranian government rejected as unfounded accusations by Argentine prosecutors that high-ranking Iranian officials were linked to a 1994 Buenos Aires bombing, state-run radio reported Friday.Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said the Argentine judiciary had produced no evidence to back its accusations. "It is necessary for Argentine officials to make comment based on the evidence," the spokesman was quoted as saying. His comments came as two Argentine special prosecutors asked a federal judge this week to order the arrest of former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani and seven others for the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires that claimed 85 lives and wounded 200 others.Hosseini said the prosecutors' announcement was "propaganda" and "Zionist hype." The announcement aims at diverting public opinion from Israeli crimes in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, Hosseini said.... http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/10/27/iran.argentina.ap/index.html?eref=rss_world
