A strong majority of Iraqis want U.S.-led military forces to immediately withdraw from the country, saying their swift departure would make Iraq more secure and decrease sectarian violence, according to new polls by the State Department and independent researchers. In Baghdad, for example, nearly three-quarters of residents polled said they would feel safer if U.S. and other foreign forces left Iraq, with 65 percent of those asked favoring an immediate pullout, according to State Department polling results obtained by The Washington Post. Another new poll, scheduled to be released on Wednesday by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, found that 71 percent of Iraqis questioned want the Iraqi government to ask foreign forces to depart within a year. By large margins, though, Iraqis believed that the U.S. government would refuse the request, with 77 percent of those polled saying the United States intends keep permanent military bases in the country... http://www.washingtonpost.com censor News |

Musharraf: Iraq war makes world more dangerous |
The war in Iraq has not made the world safer from terror, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has told CNN, saying he stands by statements on the subject he makes in his new book, "In the Line of Fire." In the book, Musharraf -- a key ally who is often portrayed as being in complete agreement with U.S. President George W. Bush on the war on terror and other issues -- writes he never supported the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. "I stand by it, absolutely," Musharraf told CNN's "The Situation Room." Asked whether he disagreed with Bush, he said, "I've stated whatever I had to ... it [the war] has made the world a more dangerous place." He also addressed allegations that Pakistan was a less-than-enthusiastic recruit into the war on terror and that former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told a Pakistani official that the United States would bomb Pakistan "back to the stone age" if it did not cooperate with Washington after the September 11, 2001, ... http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/09/26/musharraf.terror/index.html

Children's Bodies Found Months After Attack |
More than two months since a house was destroyed in southern Lebanon, the bodies of two children were removed from the rubble on Sunday. First aid workers for Hezbollah placed the bodies in plastic bags after they were discovered. Other than the two children, four-year old Ayat Aluiyeh and her cousin Zeinab, five, three other children killed in the July 17 attack are believed to still be under the debris of the house in the northern suburbs of the southern port city of Tyre. The children, from Marun Al Ras village near Lebanon's border with Israel, took refuge with their families in the house after the war between the Shiite group and the Jewish state began on July 12. ... http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7004982051

Hells Angels Accused of Racketeering As Trial Opens in Las Vegas |
A federal prosecutor said Hells Angels motorcycle gang members plotted a deadly attack on a rival gang, showing jurors Tuesday a security video of leather-clad bikers wielding guns, knives, hammers and chairs in the bloody brawl at a southern Nevada casino. Defense lawyers for the 11 Hells Angels have said their client were attacked first in the April 27, 2002, melee that left three people dead and at least a dozen injured. Each has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the brawl, which was recorded from at least a half-dozen angles by the Harrah's Laughlin hotel-casino's surveillance cameras. They are the first of 42 men from California, Washington, Arizona, Alaska and Nevada, and ranging in age from 28 to 63 to stand trial in the brawl. All face the possibility of life in prison if convicted of the most serious charge, racketeering-attempted murder. ... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2495906

Intel Judge Limits Advanced Micro Antitrust Claims to U.S. |
Intel Corp., the world's largest computer-chip maker, won a court ruling to limit anti-trust claims by closest rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. to those covering U.S. sales. U.S. District Joseph J. Farnan Jr. in Wilmington, Delaware, yesterday granted Intel's motion to exclude Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro's foreign commerce claims, citing lack of jurisdiction, according to an electronic court filing. The judge meets today with representatives from both companies. Advanced Micro sued Intel last year, claiming the company built up dominance in the worldwide market for microprocessors by stifling competition and trying to coerce customers into not buying Advanced Micro products. Farnan yesterday upheld Intel's assertion that Advanced Micro is seeking damages based mostly on the sales of its German-made microprocessors in foreign countries where U.S. courts have no jurisdiction.... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ac92MqNv4h9s&refer=worldwide_news

Bush Signs Spending Tracker Bill President Inks Law Creating Online Database Of Government Spending |
President Bush said Tuesday that Americans will now be able to "Google their tax dollars," as he signed a law to create an online database for tracking about $1 trillion in government spending on grants and contracts. The law is aimed at preventing wasteful spending by opening the federal budget to greater scrutiny. The information is already available, but the Web site would make it easier for those who aren't experts on the process to see how taxpayer dollars are being spent. "Information on earmarks will no longer be hidden deep in the pages of a federal budget bill, but just a few clicks away," Mr. Bush said in a signing ceremony. "This legislation will give the American people a new tool to hold their government accountable for spending decisions. When those decisions are made in broad daylight, they will be wiser and they will be more restrained." ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/09/26/tech/main2040533.shtml?source=RSSattr=U.S._2040533
