A lesbian couple filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Tuesday claiming cancer treatments damaged their sexual relationship. Their attorneys say it is the first lawsuit of its kind under Connecticut's civil unions law. Margaret Mueller and Charlotte Stacey are suing two doctors, accusing them of treating Mueller for ovarian cancer when she actually had cancer of the appendix. South Korea rains leave 50 dead, missing |
Monsoon rains that pounded South Korea for a fifth straight day Tuesday have left 19 people dead and 31 missing, the country's disaster agency announced in the latest death toll.Most victims came from the eastern mountainous province of Gangwon where 17 were killed in landslides or flash floods, said the National Emergency Management Agency.More than 22 inches of rain have fallen there since Friday.The agency warned there could be more flood victims with casualty reports still coming. Relief continued as more than 3,700 people remained homeless as of early Tuesday, it added.Heavy rain was expected to last another few days.The downpour has flooded homes, swept away roads and inundated farmland and villages. Lebanon fighting 'could last weeks' |
An Israeli general warned today that an invasion of Lebanon remained a possibility as the army mobilised reserves to reinforce its northern border.Moshe Kaplinsky, the deputy chief of staff, said he expected fighting in Lebanon to continue for a few weeks until Israel had achieved "very clear goals".The death toll among Lebanese civilians and soldiers continued to rise. Agencies in Beirut reported that Israeli airstrikes had killed 13 civilians and 11 soldiers of the Lebanese army who are not in conflict with Israel. The dead included a family of nine in Aitaroun whose home was hit by an Israeli missile. Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 200 civilians in Lebanon.Several governments are attempting to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon using aircraft and ships. Yuan Falls as China's Government Rules Out Currency Revaluation |
The yuan fell for a third day after China said it wouldn't revalue its currency and that investors betting on faster gains would ``not succeed.'' The comments doused speculation China would reset the yuan's value this week, the one-year anniversary of a decision to abandon a link to the dollar. There will be no ``surprises,'' said Zheng Jingping, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics. ``You won't make money by being long the yuan,'' said Adrian Foster, director of foreign-exchange sales at Dresdner Kleinwort in Singapore. ``What we've seen over the last 12 months is consistent.''
