Senators on Tuesday said they would consider every avenue to fix a badly broken system of caring for troops wounded in battle, as Bush administration officials apologized anew for cases of neglect at Walter Reed Army Medical Center."The war in Iraq has divided our nation but the cause of supporting our troops unites us," said Sen. Carl Levin, D-Michigan, who chairs the Armed Services Committee. "We will do everything we can possibly do -- not as Democrats or Republicans -- but as grateful Americans -- to care for those who have served our nation with such honor and distinction."As his panel questioned top defense officials, Levin also used the revelations of bad conditions and outpatient care at Walter Reed to take a swipe at President Bush's war polices.... http://www.cnn.com censor News |

Man Charged With Airborne Sex Assault Woman Says Off-Duty Airline Worker Fondled Her, Ejaculated On Her During A Red-Eye Flight |
An off-duty Northwest Airlines employee was arrested after a woman on a red-eye flight from Seattle complained that the man had ejaculated on her. The FBI identified the man as Samuel Oscar Gonzalez, 20, of Lakewood, Wash. He was charged in federal court with simple assault, a misdemeanor. According to an affidavit filed with the complaint, the woman said she was trying to sleep in her seat when the man sat down in an empty seat next to her. She said he touched her, "spooned" or cradled her body from behind, and lifted her shirt, and then got up and left. Court documents said she felt a warm fluid on her back, clothes and seat, realized what had happened, and told flight attendants. "I know she was really upset, just kind of confused about what's going on, what's happening," the victim's boyfriend, Mark, who asked to be identified only by his first name, told CBS station WCCO-TV. ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/06/national/main2538406.shtml?source=RSSattr=U.S._2538406

Pimco Wins, Procter & Gamble Loses as Turmoil Spreads |
Pacific Investment Management Co.'s Total Return Fund, the world's biggest bond fund, has cost investors as much as $55 million because of its growing bet against corporate securities in the past year. Now, Pimco & Mark Kiesel who oversees $80 billion of company debt at Newport Beach, California-based firm, are gaining some redemption as investors flee all but the safest of assets amid concern rising mortgage delinquencies will slow the economy. The extra yield over Treasuries that investors demand to compensate for the risk of default rose the most in a year last week, according to data compiled by Merrill Lynch & Co. ``It's batten down the hatches time,'' said Kiesel, who was so sure the housing market would collapse that he sold his Southern California home last May & moved to an apartment. Pimco has obviously been a little bit off on its timing, but we remain pretty convinced we're going to get this right. Profits have been supported by consumer spending thanks to housing going up ... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aA3.lujabUSM&refer=exclusive

Gunmen and bombers killed at least 90 Shiite pilgrims in targeted attacks Tuesday ahead of a Muslim holiday, a day after nine U.S. soldiers died in the deadliest day for Americans in Iraq in nearly a month. An Associated Press cameraman at the scene said the bombers struck a crowd of pilgrims filing into a pedestrian area. Ambulances and Iraqi police were swarming the area and there was no immediate sign of U.S. forces. It was one of several shootings and bombings across central Iraq Tuesday targeting the Shiite faithful on their way to a shrine in Karbala where they would mark the end of a 40-day mourning period after the death of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson. ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/05/iraq/main2535064.shtml?source=RSSattr=World_2535064

Webb bill limits Iran fight |
Freshman Sen. James H. Webb Jr. yesterday introduced legislation to force President Bush to seek congressional authorization before using force against Iran. Democratic leaders, who indicated general support for the Virginia Democrat's plan last week, are still deciding whether they will attach it to an upcoming spending bill. "This presidency has shot from the hip too many times for us to be able to trust it to act on its own," said Mr. Webb, a decorated Vietnam veteran who won a hotly contested Senate race last fall in part because of his opposition to the Iraq war. "We need the Congress to be involved in any decision to commence military activities absent an attack from the other side or a direct threat." ... http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20070306-122217-9622r.htm
