Microsoft is launching legal action against 100 phishing gangs based in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. By the end of March, 53 cases will have begun said Microsoft, with all 100 filed by the end of June. Seven of the criminal groups behind fake websites that trick people into handing over confidential information are known to be in the UK. The legal cases follow investigative work undertaken by Microsoft, national police forces and Interpol. "This is specific action against people that we have identified as being behind phishing sites," said Jerry Fishenden, national technology officer for Microsoft UK. Phishing e-mails try to make you enter personal and login details on fake webpages made to resemble real bank sites. Mr Fishenden said phishing had grown enormously over the last couple of years. By the end of 2005 there were known to be more than 7,000 unique phishing sites on the net. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk censor News |

Vatican change of heart over 'barbaric' Crusades |
THE Vatican has begun moves to rehabilitate the Crusaders by sponsoring a conference at the weekend that portrays the Crusades as wars fought with the “noble aim” of regaining the Holy Land for Christianity. The Crusades are seen by many Muslims as acts of violence that have underpinned Western aggression towards the Arab world ever since. Followers of Osama bin Laden claim to be taking part in a latter-day “jihad against the Jews and Crusaders”. The late Pope John Paul II sought to achieve Muslim- Christian reconciliation by asking “pardon” for the Crusades during the 2000 Millennium celebrations. But John Paul’s apologies for the past “errors of the Church” including the Inquisition and anti-Semitism irritated some Vatican conservatives. According to Vatican insiders, the dissenters included Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Benedict reached out to Muslims and Jews after his election and called for dialogue. ... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-2093921,00.html

Bill Gates, the world’s richest man, has poured scorn on a revolutionary new 100-dollar laptop designed for the world’s poorest children, sparking off a storm of condemnation in cyberspace. Gates’ comments came in a speech in Washington on Wednesday in which he touted a much more expensive mobile laptop recently unveiled his own company, Microsoft, reports said Thursday. Gates predicted a bright future for mobile computers and phones but scoffed at the 100-dollar machine being developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media guru Nick Negroponte for use by children in the developing world. Kadhafi says Saddam still legitimate Iraqi leader, government illegal |
Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi said Saddam Hussein should still be considered Iraq's legal president and the current government illegitimate as it was elected under an occupation regime. In an interview with the Italian Sky TG24 television channel, he slammed the practice of sending in troops to get rid of heads of state, saying that by that theory he could be next. Kadhafi said that "Saddam Hussein cannot be tried because he is a prisoner of war and under the Geneva Convention should be released at the end of hostilities. "Saddam is still to be considered the legal president of Iraq because he was not overthrown by the people but by the occupation forces." ... http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?id=2006032007457000000001&dt=20060320074500&w=AFP&coview
