Accounting error raises GM's loss. |
Struggling US car giant General Motors (GM) has been forced to increase its annual 2005 losses by $2bn (£1.1bn) due to accounting errors. The company now says its losses totalled $10.6bn last year, with the additional $2bn caused by errors at a mortgage subsidiary. GM said as a result it was now going to delay filing its 2005 annual report. The company is also going to restate its results for the years 2000 to 2004 due to the same error. It added that it had further incorrectly accounted for some supplier payments. Analysts said the revelation of accounting errors would be yet another blow to the credibility of a firm that is struggling to turn around its fortunes. Seems to be a lot of these errors in accounting, but why are none saying they actually made more? Something fishy in the corporate world? ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4818950.stm

Bush: US must resist temptation to leave Iraq. |
Bush on Sat urged Americans growing increasingly impatient with the Iraq war to resist a temptation to retreat, even as he acknowledged setbacks and the prospect of more bloodshed. On the eve of the 3-year anniversary of the launch of the war, Bush used his weekly radio address to insist that despite "horrific" images in Iraq, progress was being made on the political and military fronts." These past 3 years have tested our resolve. We've seen hard days and setbacks," Bush said. But he said his administration was "fixing what has not worked." Pessimism over Iraq has helped drag Bush's approval ratings to around 35 percent in recent polls, the lowest level of his presidency. More than 2,300 U.S. troops have died in the war.How many more have to die or be maimed for life before we admit we were all fools to fall for all the lies that started this? We need to charge everyone who got us into this mess including all in the media who pushed the lies. Otherwise it will happen again... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060318/pl_nm/iraq_bush_dc

Cost of Iraq war could surpass $1 trillion Estimates vary, but all agree price is far higher than initially expected |
One thing is certain about the Iraq war: It has cost a lot more than advertised. In fact, the tab grows by at least $200 million each and every day.In the months leading up to the launch of the war three years ago, few Bush administration officials were willing to comment publicly on the potential costs to the United States. After all, no cost would have been too high if the United States faced an imminent threat from an Iraq armed with weapons of mass destruction, the war's stated justification. In fact, the economic ramifications are rarely included in the debate over whether to go to war, although some economists argue it is quite possible and useful to assess potential costs and benefits.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11880954/
