Assistant Chief Alan Dreher said the officers had a legal warrant & "knocked & announced" before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in shooting once they were fired upon. As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., "as we have it right now, the female opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire, & struck & killed her," Dreher said. One of the police officers was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder. The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, & all 3 were conscious & alert, police said. If you think the Cops wouldn’t lie, carefully reread what they said above. They couldn’t even tell a plausible lie. So what else are they lying about? Could they have shot themselves (in very safe places) in an attempt to cover up this killing? It’s hard to justify shooting an old woman by mistake. Or the old woman was just a crack shot to hit 3 cops, but bad enough to only wound them? ... http://www.cbsnews.com censor News |

Guantanamo prisoner alleges botched medical procedures |
A detainee at Guantanamo Bay who needs a medical procedure on his heart said Tuesday he doesn't want it performed there because operations on other detainees have been botched — an accusation the base commander denied.Saifullah Paracha, a multimillionaire Pakistani businessman held at Guantanamo, "believes that two prisoners have lost their vocal cords after routine tonsillectomies, that a prisoner lost part of his leg because of a surgical sponge left in him which became infected, and that a prisoner lost a testicle from similar neglect," said Gaillard T. Hunt, his attorney.Hunt said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that Paracha made these allegations Tuesday in a phone call that was monitored by the military. It is rare for attorneys to be permitted to speak with Guantanamo Bay detainees by phone, but a U.S. Department of Justice attorney has said Paracha should be encouraged to undergo a cardiac catheterization.... http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/22/news/CB_GEN_Guantanamo_Heart_Procedure.php

U.S. to Require Passports for Nearly All |
Nearly all air travelers entering the U.S. will be required to show passports beginning Jan. 23, including returning Americans and people from Canada and other nations in the Western Hemisphere. The date was disclosed Tuesday by Homeland Gestapo Secretary Michael Chertoff in an interview with The Associated Press. The Homeland Gestapo Department plans to announce the change on Wednesday. Until now, the department had not set a specific date for instituting the passport requirement for air travelers, though the start had been expected to be around the beginning of the year. Setting the date on Jan. 23 pushes the start past the holiday season. The requirement marks a change for Americans, Canadians, Bermudans and some Mexicans. ... http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/11/21/D8LHOQT00.html

Israel steps up Gaza offensive but fails to slow Palestinian rocket fire |
Israel stepped up its offensive against Palestinian rocket squads on Wednesday, sending troops and tanks into two Gaza towns in a sign that intensified diplomatic efforts are facing tough obstacles. The Israeli operation failed to stop rockets from slamming into southern Israel and one hit a school just before pupils arrived. No one was hurt. In the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli snipers positioned themselves on more than a dozen rooftops in the towns of Beit Hanoun and Jebaliya as ground troops fanned out, Palestinian security officials said. Three teenage Palestinian girls were wounded by Israeli gunfire outside a school in Beit Hanoun, hospital and security officials said. Militants, led by gunmen from the ruling Hamas faction's military wing, faced off against troops in both towns with land mines, anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenades, security officials said. One Israeli soldier was wounded, the military said... http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-11-22-gaza_x.htm?csp=34

China lauds India-Pakistan peace |
Chinese President Hu Jintao says his country could help forge peace between South Asian rivals, India and Pakistan. Mr Hu told a meeting in the Indian capital, Delhi, that Beijing sought no "selfish gains" in South Asia. Correspondents say India has always been suspicious of China's close support for Pakistan and its military ties with India's historic rival. On Tuesday, Mr Hu and Indian PM Manmohan Singh pledged to double their trade to $40bn (£21bn) a year by 2010. "China welcomes and supports improvement in relations between India and Pakistan," the Press Trust of India quoted Mr Hu telling the meeting of politicians, diplomats and economists in Delhi, a day ahead of his visit to Islamabad. He said China was prepared to play a "constructive role for the promotion of peace and development in South Asia". A peaceful and prosperous South Asia was beneficial for the whole world, President Hu said. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6171616.stm

Questions have multiplied since police began their investigation into the weekend shooting of a disbarred lawyer and his wife, who lived on the same cul-de-sac as former President Clinton.Police said Tuesday that 58-year-old Carlos Perez-Olivo’s story of a mysterious roadside ambush that killed his wife and left him wounded is “unusual-sounding,” and have not ruled out the possibility he had something to do with the shootings. No arrests have been made and police said the lawyer was permitted to leave Northern Westchester Hospital late Monday. He apparently returned to his home on a Chappaqua cul-de-sac. Visitors arrived steadily at the home.
