 Molly Ivins, the iconoclastic syndicated columnist who skewered conservatives and tickled liberals, died Wednesday at her home in Austin after a long bout with breast cancer. She was 62. Ivins casually announced that she had cancer at the end of a Dec. 14, 1999, column. "I have contracted an outstanding case of breast cancer, from which I fully intend to recover," she deadpanned. "I don't need get-well cards, but I would like the beloved women readers to do something for me: Go. Get. The. Damn. Mammogram. Done." She recently suspended her twice-weekly syndicated column, but in a brief return in January urged readers to fight President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq. "Raise hell," she wrote. "Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and are trying to get them out of there." Ivins was one of Bush's harshest critics, starting when he ran for Texas governor and she nicknamed him "Scrub." ...
