Three Mexican fishermen who claim they set out months ago from Mexico's western coast have been rescued near the Marshall Islands — 5,500 miles to the west — after surviving on rain water and raw fish. Eugene Muller, manager of Koo's Fishing Co., said by phone Tuesday that the company's boat picked up the three on Aug. 9. Muller said the men were recovering and would be brought back to Majuro, the islands' capital, in 10 to 14 days."We fished, and we ate the fish raw ... because there was no fire to cook with," survivor Jesus Vidana, 27, told Mexico's Televisa news network in a telephone hook-up to the ship's communications system. They once went 15 days without food but had enough drinking water because "it rained every day," he said.He said the three read the Bible as they drifted across the Pacific.... http://www.foxnews.com censor News |

Hi-tech hackers have started to produce malicious programs that target the latest bugs in Microsoft's Windows. A worm has been spotted in the wild that tries to use vulnerabilities to hijack home computers. Any computer compromised by the worm will become part of a large botnet set up to send out junk mail. At the same time Microsoft is re-issuing a recent security patch which has made the Internet Explorer browser crash on some computers. On 8 August Microsoft released a bumper collection of security patches for 23 separate flaws in Windows and programs in the Office software suite. One of the problems identified in the August update was deemed so serious that the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a warning urging users to download the patch and apply it as soon as possible. ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4797949.stm

Hamas, Fatah to renew unity government negotiations |
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, a leader of the militant Hamas group, said on Wednesday they would renew negotiations to form a unity government that might ease international isolation. Similar talks broke down in February between officials from Abbas's Fatah faction, Hamas and other groups over Hamas's refusal to accept peace deals between the Palestinians and Israel that would imply recognition of the Jewish state. After defeating Fatah in a January election, Hamas formed a government mostly of its own members, prompting the suspension of foreign aid and plunging the Palestinian Authority into international isolation. "The consultations and the contacts to achieve this goal (of a unity government) will begin from this moment," Abbas said after meeting Haniyeh. ... http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=2319310
